I bought these a couple months ago to replace some of our Shabbat timers and they have been great. We haven’t purchased into Alexa, Google Home, or any of these smart systems, but these plugs work great without the system. They also work with one of these systems.
Parenting Find: One of the nice things is we have our kids’ room lights set up for bedtime. I really don’t want them reading with dim lights and the lights automatically turn off at their bedtime each night and on each morning when they should be waking up. The nice feature is if you decide that they get 10 extra minutes, you can turn the lights back on and set a timer from the app to give them those 10 extra minutes without forgetting to go back and turn off the lights.

With our fridge taken over by our family command center, the kids’ art needed to go someplace. With a minimal number of tools, this is what we created on our wall.
What Do You Need
Steps
- Prepare the wood by trimming it to the appropriate length. Be sure to sand the edges and then wipe them down prior to the next step. The smoother edges will minimize splintering.
- In the color of your choice, paint the boards. If you are painting over another paint job, sand it first and apply primer. You can also use a wood stain.
- Using the hot glue gun, place your metal clips on the wood. Don’t be shy with the amount of glue that you use. It’s transparent and will make sure that the artwork stays in place.
- With another color of paint, use the stencil to paint in the letter or design of your choice. Or you can use a decal.
- Place the double-sided tape on the back side of the board and place it on the wall. Using a level with help make sure that it isn’t crooked.
- Hang up your kids’ artwork and make sure to take it down so the display doesn’t get crowded.
Thanks to Hip2Save for the idea.

I have become more and more attached to my phone, it’s how I read, it’s how I stay in touch, it’s how I communicate. About a year ago, I instituted in the house that during meals the phones needed to be put away for all adults. Meals are our chance to really communicate with one another and talk. So I felt very strongly that this unnecessary distraction needed to go. For me it has been mostly easy. There is an occasion where I feel the need to look something up, but this hasn’t been as easy for others family members.
I have other friends who have a no phone rule from the time that they get home until first thing the next morning. I’m impressed that they can do it each day.
Do you have a time each day that cell phones are turned off or put away?
