I put together 36 Hamentaschen a few years ago and figured I would update this and add the recipe I use.

Classic Recipe

  • 1 stick margarine (room temp)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 tbs orange juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

  1. Cream margarine and sugar together
  2. Add eggs, OJ, and vanilla
  3. Add 2 tsp baking powder
  4. Add a pinch of salt
  5. Add 2 cups of flour gradually and mix completely
  6. Divide into 2 balls and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes
  7. Roll out onto a floured board, quarter inch thickness (use a lot of flour on both the board and rolling pin as the dough is very sticky at first).
  8. Use cup or circle cookie cutters to make circles depending on the size you want
  9. Put a tsp of filling in the middle of each circle and fold up the sides.
  10. Bake at 375 for 10 – 12 min until golden brown
