Did you know that if you have a 4th grader, she/he is entitled to a free park pass that will get you into national parks all over the country? We planned a bunch of trips (some of which are free and we don’t need a pass and some that have paid entrances) when my oldest was in 4th grade.

Here’s an article that features a road trip itinerary to cover some great parks.

Here are some of the places we have been:

  • Great Falls (both the MD and the VA sides)
  • Shenandoah
  • Chincoteague
  • Philadelphia (There are a number of National Parks)
  • Statue of Liberty (This is a national park, but you have to pay a vendor to get there)
  • Harper’s Ferry
  • Everglades
  • Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge
  • Mojave National Forest
  • National Arboretum
  • Wolf Trap
  • Fort McHenry
